Gas Shut-Offs

Maintenance and Warranty Guidelines about Gas Shut-Offs

Homeowner Use and Maintenance Guidelines

Here are some things that you should know about your gas shut-off:

1. Know the location of the gas shut-off valve

You will find shut-offs on gas lines near their connection to each item that operates on gas. In addition, there is a main shut-off at the meter. We will point these out during the orientation.

2. Know how and when to turn your gas off

How to turn your gas vas off?

Be familiar with the gas shut-off valve. This tool is closed when the tang (the part of the valve you put the wrench on) is crosswise (perpendicular) to the pipe.

Do not turn your home's natural supply of gas off unless the following event occurs:

a. Natural disasters such as floods or earthquakes

b. You suspect a gas leak, saw a broken gas pipe, or hear gas escaping.

c. You are up for some home renovation or major house construction

3. Do NOT turn your gas ON by yourself. It must be done by a professional gas technician or someone from your gas utility provider. This process must be done because certain tests needed to be performed first, such as pressure tests on the system. The technician also needs to relight all pilot lights in the house as part of the process.

Always remember that any problem related to gas shut-off valves MUST always be directed to your gas supplier.
